Welcome to the Elk Plain Computer Lab

Elk Plain students have numerous opportunities to work on our 15 Apple desktop
computers as well as G-4 laptops from our two traveling computer carts.
Beginning computer users learn how to navigate the mouse by using programs
such as KID PIX. Beginning readers can practice their skills on Learn to Read
( www.starfall.com)
They also learn how to type and print sentences using Microsoft Word.
Intermediate users learn to do research by using a search engine called Nettrekker,
which is designed for students. Each result is a site that has been vetted
by a teacher or librarian, which cuts down on accessing sites with advertisements,
and sites that are too difficult to read.
Students learn to be discriminating users of the Internet by working on a
site called "Cybersmart" and learn to make good decisions when choosing
information.
Intermediate students also begin to learn how to present what they have learned
using tools such as Powerpoint or Inspiration.
Advanced users take everything they have learned before and tackle comprehensive
research projects that use production tools and web resources such as United
Streaming.
In the future, as they move into the world of Web 2.0, these students will
take advantage of social networking sites where they can share ideas and their
work.
